Tips For Getting Creative With Your Old Garage Doors

by Eva Richards

If you have finally found yourself in the position of needing or simply wanting to replace your old garage door, you need to start to think about what you can do with your old garage door. Sure, you could just find a garage door installation company to take it away for you, or you could get creative and make use of it. Take a moment to reflect on the following suggestions to see if any of them spark an idea or two in you.

Shed Roof

Metal garage doors make excellent roofs for storage or tool sheds. Just make sure that you are cutting it so that it fits the dimensions of your shed and still hang over the sides a little. You might want to gently sand down the edges of the garage door that have been cut. This way, should you ever have to climb up there, you will not risk yourself getting cut by the sharp metal.

Photo Frames

If you have a garage door that you would like to hold on to, you can always cut it into pieces and turn that door into multiple photo frames. Cut the pieces of the door are cut and the sides are sanded smooth, you will want to paint them. Once the paint has dried, you can add sticky photo corner holders that you can buy at just about any craft shop. This way, you can change out pictures as you want without worrying about damaging the photos themselves or the finish on the new frames.

Dog House

Even if your dog only stays outside for a small portion of the day, it is always a good idea to give it a shelter that it can quickly run to in the event of a storm. Instead of spending a lot of money on the purchase of a new dog house, you can build one with your old garage door. You can use the material for the roof or even the walls of the dog house. Just make sure that you are using strong industrial screws and fasteners in order to hold it altogether in even the strongest of winds.

As you can see, there are plenty of things that you can do with an old garage door. So before you let anyone take it,  you might want to set it aside for a future project around the house or yard. For further assistance, contact professionals, such as those from The Garage Doctor.
